THE JOURNAL. First Trial of the Pneumatic Street Car. A preliminary trial trip of the pneumatic car took place Tuesday night in the presence of a few stock holders. Some two hours were con sumed in dragging the car through the mud and over the cohble etone irecii track. The hard usage it was thus necessurily subjected to injured one of the connections, allowing an es cape of motive power, so that when 'finally in position on the track, ready to start, the gauge recorded a pres sure of only ninety-six pounds, in stead of thive hundred, as designed. It was now about half-past one o'clock. Some forty people crowded into the car, the engine started, and with a cheer, away it went toward Caual street, at the rate of about fif teen miles an hour. The engine soon proved itself powerful enough to drag the Fonchartrain train, the trip plainly demonstrating that one of half the size would be all that is re quired lor the propulsion of street cars. Twice on the way down the car ran off the tra...
