NORTHERN TRIBUNE. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1373. Official Paper of the County and Village THE STATU FAIR. The State Fair held at Detroit last week proves to have been the most, successful ever held in the st:ite in regard to the number of en'iies, attendance and re ceipts. The tntries numbered over 8,000t thtj attendance was immense, crowding the grounds every d.iy, and the recoips exceeded $33,000. This demonstrates that Detroit is the most suitable place in the state for holding the fair. While no: so centrally located, geographically, as some other places, it is more easy ot ac cess from all parts of the state than any other city. Its hotel accommodations are superior to any other place, and yet last week they were uot equal to the de mand, and a great many visitors were obliged to undergo many discomforts. The J act was, the attendance was beyond the most sanguine expectations of any persou, and shows tiiat the people of the state believes in the fair, and will attend when it is ...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1S7S. Official Paper of the County and Village A STOCK. AHGl'JIEXr OF THE IK HEDEEMABLES." One of the arguments In which the National Greenback orators seem to take a great deal of comfort, in their crusade ag dnst redeemable paper money, is based upon the tact that the old state banks rarely or never had at any oue time, enough specie on hand to- redeem their outstanding circulation il it had ail been presented at once. To this fact they point triumphantly as an explanation of what they call the "failure bt state bank ing systemsnd while some of them cleave the matter to inference, many of lhompenly decl are that all the evils ol those systems would have been avoided If the paper, instead of being based on an insufficient amount of coin, had been based on none at all.
