In our consideration ef the manner of K-cding eras' lands, in our last, itvras assumed that the fields had been put in rroper condi tion to rwehe tlse toed in advance. This inny l, and probably in n majority of cases is, a false auinption ; and j et we bclicrc that in this rcrjiect we are much in advance of any other part of the treatment of these lands. The custom quite prevalent of ma nuring Iieavily for the proceeding crop for the benefit of the grass, although not especially objectionable if manure is plenty, is on the bole, doubtless, poor economy. The theory upon which such practice is predicated, is that it is better to do ths work on a small tract well, than to run over a larger inalcss thorough manner, but unfortunately for the advocates of the practice under consideration the theory is not applicable to the case.
