The official ccunt of Milam county gives Shcpard a major- ity of only S65 instead of over 1003 as was confidently calcu- lated upon. Tun municipal election in St. Louis does not take place-till April next; yet there are numer- ous candidates feeling for office. It is predicted by some of the newspapers that Garfield will be as day in the hands of Grant Conkling Blaine Logan &-Co. corruptionists. At Calvert the home of Gen. Hamman there were fifteen hundred votes polled the Gen. receiving only one hundred of them. Forty members of the Aus tin bar-assembled at the court house in that city last Saturday and elected Jol. J. w. K.oDison special district judge to preside until the close of judge Turner's term. The official count of the vote of some of the counties in the state was made by the county judges on Saturday last but in a majority of the countfes it was deferred till Monday the 15th. The Bastrop Advertiser takes up a whole page to publish the election returns which might have been put in tabular form in very little space. From the corrected returns of the vote of Galveston county it appears that Shepard received 3064 votes and Jones 1693 making Shepard's majority 1371 instead.of 1306 as first reported. The Nayasota Tablet is in hopes that Grimes and Madison counties have elected West- morland white as representa- tive. Up to Saturday last no returns had been received from Madison county. Congressman Wellborn from the third" congressiol dis- trict ought to feel highly grati- fied at .the fact that his majori- ty is 33000 the largest gained by any congressman in this country.
