Cruelty To Dumb Ani mals. At the local police court yester day, before Mr Ivongiietd, P.M., action was taken against a number of residents for having worked hor ses under circumstancos involving cruelty. The first case dealt with was. against Bernard McKay, who was charged with ill-treating a horse at Biroogi April 22tid. In this case Sergt Byrne said the horse being worked by defendant had two sores on Its off shoulder, two sores on back, one under the saddle, one under the breeching, and one on the neai'" thigh. The horse was staggering under a dray load of gravel with a mau riding on top. A fine of £5 was inflicted with 6/ costs. David McKay was fined _£L with 6/ costs.
