TILE fvovoit dentine! AND ®mVCV£lUl ^(hUKUtC. PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY - . . SATURDAY MORNING JULY 4. Current Topics. We are informed by Mr. A. S. Rodgers, that upon his representations the Postmaster-General has reconsidered the financial aspcct of the proposed telephone line from Yarpturk to Winslow, and instead of the usual regulation length poles the department has agreed to erect the line upon 14ft. poles, to be erected inside fences on private property along the route, subject to the property owners concerned permitting such erection. On receipt of such permission the line will be proceeded with. Instead of the heavy financial contribution originally asked from the residents, this lighter line will be erected without any contribution what ever from residents. The balance-sheet presented at the meeting of the Koroit branch A.N.A. on Monday evening shows that body to be in a strong position financially. The sick fund has £400 on fixed deposit, and £116 in current account, and it...

NEW CROSSLEY CHURCH. BLESSING AND OPENING CEREMONY. [Newspaper Article] — Koroit Sentinel and Tower Hill Advocate — 4 July 1914

NEW CROSSLEY CHURCH. BLESSING AND OPENING CEREMONY. A lasting testimony to the faithful generosity of the Catholic community at Crosslcy was vouchsafed on Sunday last, when the beautiful new church of St. Brigid was formally blessed and opened, in the presence of a particularly large congregation of adherents of the Roman Catholic faith, and many supporters of the doctrines of other churchcs. The function was further enhanced by the presence of two noted Catholics in Dr. Higgins (Bishop of Ballarai) and Dr. Mannix (Coadjutor Archbishop of Melbourne.) Upon arrival at the church the prelates were received by a guard of honor formed by the members of the H.A.C.B. Society, and were introduced to the members of the local committee. Then his Lordship the Bishop formally blessed the exterior and interior of the building. The building is handsome and commo dious, and one that should suffice for the population of the Crossley district for many years to come. Standing upon the highest point i...

Original Correspondence. [It must be distinctly understood that we do not identify ourselves with the opinions expressed by correspondents.) CR". SlvlLBEClC AND THE BOROUGH FOREMAN. To Tim 'EDITOR.^ Sir,-It is not my intention to enter into a ncwspapcE controversy with any official of the council. while I have the honor to represent the ratepayers at the council table. The road overseer should have been present at the meeting prepared to answer any questions in regard to his work. I am pleased to state, however, that lie has been wronfiTX informed ns to my state ments at the last meeting. The point I brought before the council was the fact :that two employees of the council had J returned from the lake bank, riding on an empty cart, at 11 o'clock, when they might 'easily have brought cither a load of soil or gravel for the gardens, and thus economise their time and the ever in creasing expense for day labour for the amount of work completed. In conclusion I would invite the road ove...
