Maroochy Shire Council. EXTRAORDINARY ELECTION NOMINATION DAY. ' MR. BUTT ELECTED UNOPPOSED. Wednesday last was the day set apart for the receiving of nomina tions of persons willing to act as councillor in place of Councillor Dalton, who resigned his seat a few months back. Yesterday at noon, the Returning Officer (Mr. G. Cr. Mitchell Resigns. On Saturday, Councillor D. H. Mitchell tendered his resignation as a representative of No. 2 subdi vision on the Maroochy Shire Council. Mr. Mitchell was the re tiring councillor this year, but his resignation at this early date does not cause an extraordinary election to be held, as the resignation was received within the time limit al lowed by the I,ocal Authorities Act to save the expense of a special election. Mr. Mitchell's successor will therefore be elected at the annual elections, which must take place before - January 10th. 'Al- ready the names of Messrs. W. Lanham, F. Murtagh, J- Murtagh, H. A. Keil, G. Etheridge, A. K. Henderson, and W. Doigare being freely mentioned as likely candi dates for the vacant seat.

Sale of Work. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 16 October 1903

Sale of Work. A successful saie of work was held in the Salvation Army Bar racks on Tuesday. The building was nicely decorated with palms and flowers, while one table was laid out with clothing in the centre, and was in charge of Mrs. A. Histed, ably assisted by Mrs. W. Short, Captain Hines, and Lieutenant Crossman. At night a phonograph entertainment was given, the bar racks being comfortably filled. The instrument was in the capable hands of Mrs. W. Short, and the many selections which she gave were well appreciated. At the close a coffee supper was held, and this added greatly to the- enjoyment of the evening. Next Wednesday night a bioscope entertainment is to be given in the Methodist Church under the supervision of the local corps of the Salvation Army, and from what we have been able to glean from reports given of this show, there seems to be a pleasant evening in store for those who happen to be present.

Advertising [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 16 October 1903

An Association of - - - - Associations. Since our leaderette appeared on the advisability of forming an association i of associations, representations have been made to us asking that we take up the matter and ask all the Associations to appoint two delegates. This we readily; conceded to do and have arranged for the - delegates appointed to meet on Saturday j afternoon, November 2S, at 2 p.m.. :ii ' Mr. J. Higginson's rooms, Xambour. It \ would be as well if the several as.soei;i- \ tions thrashed this matter out well from I .every conceivable standpoint, and at th; i same time form such rules as they thmk should govern such a body. From the=* different sets the rules can be made, am; there can be but little doubt that rules sc drawn up would be of the best.

Snake in Currie Street. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 16 October 1903

Snake in Currie Street. On Tuesday, about mid-day, a black snake between three and four feet long was seen by Lieut. Grossman, an officer of the Salva tion Army, crossing Currie-street, making towards the 'Chronicle' office. It was not long destined for this world, as the bringing into use of the proverbial weapons in such cases soon finished the wriggling propensities of the rep tile. ,

The committee intend to do their best to provide the public with a good, square day s racing, the club being registered under the rules of the South Queensland (Ipswich) Turf Club. Mr. W. H. Benii, of Ipswich, is to do the handicapping, which should do away with local jealousies and ill-feeling. As was stated in the advertisment which appeared in the 'Chronicle' of the 2nd instant, the nominations close on November 21st. A new store has been opened in Woodford by Mr. H.
