Upper Goulburn Election. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 13 November 1908

Upper Goulburn Election. Tuesday next is polling day. .Messr Hunt, M'Kenzie and tM'Leod (Labor candidate) have nominated. The electors have hbld a fair trial of the two first. named asd should know by this time the one that s besat fitted for the seat. The running of a Laborite is sure tc effect the result, and unless the supporters of Mr Hunt exert themselres, this gentleman will be certainly defeated. The M'Ken. zieites are confident of success. The Laborite is sure to score votes. Judging by the expression of feeling already. the one likely to feel the effect is Mr Hunt. Therefore. Mr M'Kenzie's chance is very rosy. The Bent admioustration is losing ground fast, and it is the opinion in Melbourne that the old general's time has come to shift front the Treasury benches. The returns will be posted at this office on Tuesday next. Electors are reminded that the State elec. tion will take place on Tuesday next. The poling commences at 8 a.m. and cloase at 6 p.m., and persons claiming ...

It was not to be expected that the Pre mier would remain long in the back ground when the question of Ministerial policy was before the country, and now that the new Ministerof Lands. Mr Hunt, has exposed the nakedness of the Govern ment programme, as he did in his land policy speech at Alexandra on Saturday night, Str Thomas Bent has decided to take up the whitewashing brush and dab' it over, so as to cover up the defieiencies in his colleague's work as far as possible, and 'make the thing look a little more pleasing to the eye. hllntl dra & ga ýtalididtt NEo TEMERE NEC TIMIDE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1908. FORTUNATELY for the physical feature of the race, the women of Australia are taking a great deal of practical interest in athletics. At all the great colleges for young women, physical culture and the more robust exercises of the gymna- I sium are being taught by competent teachers. Already the public schools take a high place in the competition exercises of the State, and the girls are nearly equal to the boys. A scrutiny of the girls of our schools shows that they are improving in physique. The carriage of the head is nobler, the bust straighter, the limb movement freer, and the eye brighter that was observ able less than live or more years ago. The danger with girls of athletic taste is that when they leave school or college they will run to flesh, because of their relinquishing of their youthful accomplishments. This is noticed with men, and is sure to be the same with women unless some compensat...
