The Vengeur mare Veronica, while taking part in the Farewell Hannicap at Hay, fell and broke her back aud had to be destroyed. Her nder, K. Hoystod, got Ills ante dislo. cated, and waa taken to the hospital, where he is progressing favorably. Mr W. T. Seal's Dorothy, by Richmond— Dolainera, broke down badly while taking part in the Opening Handicap at the Hay Baoes, and subsequently .died. Dorothy was in foal to Torrents, and that was the last meeting at whioh she was to take part. DISTURBING THE S&LTATION ASHY. At the Police Court before Mr L. S. Donaldson, P.M., on Thursday, Thomas Hallen, 50, was charged with disturbing the Salvation Army when assembled for Divine worship on Wednesday night. Constable Toohey stated that about 9.15 p.m. on Wednesday, when on duty near the Army Btrracka, be heard a hnstle it by two men but he continued to argue and forced his way back into the meeting, disturbing tlie service. A meeting of the leading residents was held in the Court House on Friday, May 10, to protest agaiuet the closing here of tlie Court of Petty Sessions. Mr J. I . Bcnnttt presided. A resolution was moved by Mr H. Koob, and seconded by Mr G. C. Nash, ' That before taking any further oroceedines in the matter, a letter should be written to Mr Asliton, M .P., to ascertain from the Minister for Justice, whether it was really intended to close the Court House.' A committee was then formed, consisting of Messrs Sinclair, M'Kiunie, Rose, Kook, Bennett, and Sner ? wood, to take further notice, if the M.P. did not obtain a favorable answer.
