The Tucson Star of January lit publishes a reviow of tho Territory for tho past year, which shows tho rapid strides Arizona is making in wealth and population. It is a valu able article- and lack of space only prevents our publishing it entire. We mako extracts as follows: Tho United States census, taken in 18S0, gave the entire population of tho Territory at 41,5S0 souls. Tho territorial cen sus of .1882 returned tho population at 82,976.. This was evidently somewhat hi excess of the real settled population, from the fact that the A. & P. It. . was in course of construction at that time, which employed several thousand laborers. THE ARIZONA SILVER BELT. OFFICIAL PAPER OF IfcA CO. Saturday, Jannary, 5, 1883. "WlmtMus' I do 'Bout If?" Thore was one colored member of the Florida Assembly who was the most ludicrously pompous spociraen I have over seen. Ho was short and very thick set, large, gross features, lips like the bumpers of a railroad car and had tho measured walk of a mili tia voteran. Withal ho was so dense ly black that the Attorney-General, speaking of him once, said he believed "the cuss would sweat ink." This fel low was profoundly impressed with the belief that he was a natural born statesman and political economist, and xised to talk very disparagingly of Congressman W. D. Kelley, of Penn sylvania, considering him, ho said, a very much over-rated man. He had au overweening ambition to be chair- raak of something or other, and be came such a nuisance with his impor tunity that to get rid of him he was at last made Chairman of tho Committee ' on Agriculture.
