TOE FEUCIANIA SEN TINEL . THAT HAT. Probably the meanest trick that was ever played on a white man was played last week in this city, and the fact that there is no vigilance committee here is the only reason the perpetra tors of the trick are alive. A business man had just purchas ed a new stiff hat, and he went into a saloon with half a dozen friends to fit the hat on his head. They all took beer, and passed the hat around so all could see it. One of the mean est men that ever held a coun try office went to the bar-ten der and had a thin slice of lim berg cheese cut off, and when the party were looking at the frescoed ceiling through beer glasses, this wicked person slip ped the cheese under the sweat leather of the hat, and the man put it on and walked out. The man who owned the hat is one of your nervous people, who is always complaining of being sick, and who feels as though some dreadful disease was go ing to take possession of him and carry him off. He went back to his place ...

THE FELICIAA %aEN rIMEL. TTER EOM: WASHINGTON. WaVrIIINcGTOx, D. C., Jnne 2, 1550. Yesterday, the day before the battle, there were symptons of of sanity at Chicago among the Radical (lelegates. To day or to-morrow there will be a re lapse. A formal bolt iý not certain, but is likely, and. an intite amount of scratching and apathy in Nov t mber. The Radical party it seenms to me, is doomed, and the madness at Chicago is one of the forerun ners of dissolution. The inter est felt here in the convention is greater than I have ever seen before. It is of course especi ally great on the ]Radical side of the population. In Congress the few of thatparty who remain on duty are so much occupied in reading- and writing tele grams and discussing conven tion probabilities that the work of legislation goes on quite pea ceably. Dilatory motions are not made, sectional questions are not raised, and one might almostr believe, from the im proved moral of the house ot Representatives that the Radi cal...

TMCFELICIANA SENTINEL. Czontinued from First Page profitably employed. Capital is hopeful and confident, and freely seeks new ad ventures. Great o owds of emigrants come to better their condition, while con tributing to our wealth. Our population approaches fifty millions of people. The minral resources of our country are greater than the wildest imaginings of a afew years ago. Taxes that three years ago yielded barely enough revenue to meet: ncurrnt expensas, in March last yielded, without an increase in the rate, a scrplus revenue of $14,000,000, and wall no doubt during the present year yield over $100,000,000; our 4 per cent. bonds now sell at a higher rate than over 6 per cent. bonds averaged for a series ofyears; out ma lufacturers have during the last tea years more than doubled.
