The Odious Income Tax. The last proposition in Con gress respecting the income tax, js that of Senator Sherman. He designs that the ta shall bo continued but reduced, in itead of five per cent., as at present, bis plan is to make it three per cent. The people will object to this for two reasons. In the first place, it is a -violation of the public faith. When -the income tx was originally lev ied amid the 'extremes, pressure of the war, Congress solemnly pledged the faith of the Gov ernment that it should end in 1870. Thw is as binding n promise ns that on the face of tie government bonds. It is n contract with the people, ami cannot be repudiated without dishonor. Another vital ob jection to this tax is that is un constitutional.
