REPUBLICAN STATE CANDIDATES. HON. WM. HENRY EUSTIS, CANDIDATE! FOR GOVERNOR. William Henry Eustis is an illus trious example of the typical Ameri can citizen who wins, through energy, Industry and integrity, a distinguished and honored position among his fellow men. The son of a mechanic, he was reared among the laboring classcs and destined for a mechanical trade, from which, however, he was barred by a physical affliction, causing him to exert his energies toward securing an educa tion, and ultimately entering the legal profession, in which he achieved mer ited success. After practicing law for six years at Saratoga, N. Y., he came to Minnesota in 1S81, was admitted to the bar, renewed his law practice in the city of Minneapolis, and gradually becoming interested in real estate and business enterprises, his successful ventures soon demanded his entire at tention. The same Indomitable deter mination that surmounted his physical disability when a youth and secured for him an e...

From The News Tribune of Oct. 1, 1898. Congressman Page Morris of Duluth, representative from the great Sixth dis trict of Minnesota, was accorded a wel come at the armory last evening which for warmth and enthusiasm was all that his most enthusiastic friends and sup porters could have wished for. He ar-. rived from a tour of the district at 7:45 o'clock last evening and went direct from the train to the armory, where the great er part of tihe large audience was already seated. At the close of the speaking hundreds of people, many that had never bejore met Congressman Morris, crowded for ward to shake him by the hand. Con gressman Morris' speech was as follows. Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: I thank you very sincerely for this cor» dial reception. Nearly 12 years 'ago I came to live amongst the people of this district. During those years it has been my highest ambition, my most ardent hope, to gain and deserve the confidence, respect and, esteemi of this people, and wheth...

that splendid position Which we have attained with so much toll and so many sacrifices, and to maintain unimpeachable the 'honor and good faith of this great nation. During my brief service In congress I have seen, on account of the exciting times through which "we have recently passed, many exciting and inspiring scenes, but I have seen none more in spiring than that which occurred in the house of representatives on the 31st day of January, 1898, when, the so-called Tel ler resolution was considered and defeat ed by the full strength of the Republican majority. That resolution was not a joint resolution, which when enacted and ap proved would have the force of law it was simply a concurrent resolution, which does not require the approval of the president, and which, If adopted, is only the expression of the opinion of the two house of congress and inferentially of the people they represent, and its importance, therefore, was in the fact that if the house should adopt it and ther...
