She rkm jfcnfm& $5 per Year; Six Months V. J. BERRY Editor. YUMA, A. T. SATURDAY, March 28, 1874; RAILROADS. jThe-Texas and Pacific, There is probably no subject inore generally discussed at this time than that of railroads. It is an ever present and ever recurr ing theme. Not only is it the chief subject of discussion in leg islative halls, conventions and lobbies, but, everywhere, in the counting room, in the shop, on the' ranch, on the land and on the sea, it comes up, old but always uew, worn out, hut n) ways fresh. And there is no wonder that this is so. Roilronda have oeen and are the great agents of commerce and civilization. .Wherever their iron arms have been stretchedt even across trackless deserts, where the home Of civilized man would never have been made but for their agency, they have not only opened the way but carried .the emigrant and the traveler. By them many an oasis has been found', furnishing a beautiful and happy -Jiome that would jiever have been discover...

"If thifjary convicts my client," said a western lawyer, rolling up his rieeves and displaying his ponderous fists," I shall feel com pelled to meet each one and ham mer justice into his soul through his head." verdict of not guilty. A Quarrelsome couple were dis cussing the subject of epitaphs and tombstones, aud the husband said: "My dear, what kind of a stone do you suppose they will give me when I die?" "Brim stone, my love," was the affection ate reply. "Who's there?" said Jenkins, one cold winter night, disturbed in his repose by some one knock ing at the streetfdoor. "A friend," was the answer. "What do you want?" "Want to stay here all night." "Queer taste stay therf by all means," was the benevolent reply. $5 par Tear; Six Months $3. WX. J. BERET .Editor. YUMA. A. T. SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 1874. A NEW VOLUME. With this issue we commence Volume III of the Arizona- Sen tinel. We have no change to announce in the manner of con ducting our journal, nor do' we think that any change is necess ary. It has been our earnest eng deavor to ma e the paper accept able to an intelligent and appre ciative public. In this we think we have been in a measure suc cessful, which is evidenced by our increasing subscription list and the character of our new subscrib ers. The verv best men of the Territory and many out of it, are gradually coming up and giving the Sentinel their support. This is very gratifying to us and eng couragps and stimulates us to press on in our determination to make our paper worthy of the support of all good people. Few persoiis, except those im mediately connected with a news paper ewniisnmpnt, have any idea of the difficulties and om- barnssments to be encountered in publishing a ne...

It is utterly, impossible to find any large items of interest this week, because there are none. There is no sensation ofany kind. The weather is delightful, and the soft and balmy air lulls to re- pose.and rather promotes laziness. Last Wednesday, being All Pools Driy. a few attempts were made at sells, but for the most part they were weak, and did not take well. We tried it on several gentlemen, but most of them were too lazy to respond, so after taking a few glasses of cider at the expense...

MISCtSfjIjAWEY. m "Have you got a little Indian there?" said the engineer, as we passed a young squaw with her pappoose, stand idg at a depot on the Pacific Railroad. "No," said she, "Half Injun, Half injuneer." A California obituary: "The deceased was a talented man of romantic nature. He placed the butt of his gun in tho fire while he looked down the muzzle, and departed hence spontaneously." Heroism, a Vermont paper thinks, is limited after all. A girl who, the other day, jumped into the Merrimack River and res .cued a drowning child, fainted away when she saw her false curls floating down stream. The B. R. Reville (Austin, Neveda) charges the jury in the Sampson trials with' having become religious, as they went to church twice on a Sunday, and in the interval entertained them selves with singing hymns and playing pitch-seven-up t for the drinks.
