Hives PollnrdjWho was iiHsasslnutod in Richmond on 1 uosday , was u brother of Mr, Edward A. Pollard, the Southern historian, and u man of ability. V hen the war broke out Mr. Pollard was news editor of the Baltimore Sun, but imme diately gave up that position and con nected himself with the Richmond Ex aminer. Soon after the rebellion was ended, in connection with Mr. Charles Wynne he established the Richmond Times, retiring from the same in the summer of that year. He edited the Examiner in 1800, and disposed of it the following yenr. He next established the Southern Opinion, of which ho was editor and proprietor at the ti.iie of his death. How Quiet van be Jtcstoreri South. the Mr. Forney, in one of his recent let ters to the Philadelphia Press, trends the subjoined communication which, we think, contains much wholesome truth. The writer of the communica tion, Mr. P. says, has resided in the South nearly three year, and is at the head of a flourishing foundry and ma chine shop in Tennessee. He is an ad vanced and intelligent Radical, believ ing in his nolitle? ns he doe in his re ligion. Without being a partisan in any sense, he never conceals his senti ments, and for the utterance of them in trains, steamboats, hotels and the streets, he has never been disturbed or menaced.
