From Keysville. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 22 October 1859

From Keysville. Keysrille, Tulare Co., Oct. 15. '59 Messrs. Editors:—A prospecting party has just returned from Mono Lake, who give a highly flattering account of the country, and hear ample testimony of the undoubted richness of the placers. The party consisted of three men. viz: Charles Nixon. Boyd Braxton and Peter Swift, all of whom are old residents of this vicinity and known to be reliable men. They represent the country bordering on the water courses as being peculiarly favorable to the grazing interest, and the vegetation leaves no doubt of its adaptation to the growth of the Cereals. They speak of the mines as surpassing anything in richness they have ever struck in California. They were not here in the flush times of '40 and '50, but you would think, to hear their narrative, that those "good old days" were agrain "revolving round." They have returned to "pull up stakes." fake all their stock from this locality and : become part and parcel of the new El Doj rado. They are m...

THE CENTRAL MAIL ROUTE, — The Bulletin of Tuesday furnishes us with some information in relation to the causes which led to the financial embarrassment of Chorpenning & Co., the contractors upon the Central mail route, and their failure recently to apply for the mails, at the usual time, ut the riacerville post office. It says : "We are informed that these embarrassments have been pending for some time past, and would have culminated some months ago. except for the interposition of the late Senator Broderick, who induced a party by the name of Jones to keep up the service, temporarily, until the arrival of Major Chorpenning from the East. The Major, however, failed to arrive when expected, and is still absent. The line, in the meantime, became indebted to Jones to the amount of $30,000, to secure which, the latter recently attached the stock. Jones, it appears, ran the mail on the western division of the route—that is, between Placerville and Gravelly Ford on the Humbold...

Post Offices in Fresno County. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 22 October 1859

Post Offices in Fresno County. Kings River James Smith Seottsburg Levi Mitchell Millerton Clarke Hoxie Dr. La J. Czapkay.—The number of those who have sacrificed the joys and pleasures of society to gratify a transitory desire for excitement has never been estimated. If they had been, the labors of those who have ventured, in suite of calumny and detraction, to confine themselves to that field of medical research, embraced under the head of chronic diseases, would be much better appreciated than they have hitherto been by the world at large. The efforts of a Ricord, a Sanger, and a Czapkay — the most ilhtstrous exponents of that branch of science are, however, dispelling the mists of prejudice which rendered the treatment of private diseases a forbidden subject to the general public, and those famous practitioners now stand forth in the light of benefactors of their race. In this State, the success of Dr. L. J. Czapkay has been so marked that envy and detraction have done their best...

Music of Earth. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 22 October 1859

Music of Earth. There is music, merry music Rising through the forest wild, Gushing free and full of gladness— 'Tis the language of a child! Where the velvet moss is greenest, Where the blue-eyed violets bloom, Where the soft spring air is laden With a wealth of rich perfume — Tie is sporting in the sunshine, With his young heart full of glee. And his merry heart is ringing, Ringing ever joyously! There is music, happy music, Echoed softly through the grove, Breathing gently of affection— 'Tis the maiden's song of love ! Blushing rcse and weeping UOy Lend their beauty to her bower; But with mingled tears and blushes, She is still the fairest flower. She is dreaming of the absent, Of his parting kiss and smile, And her happy song is gusliing, Gushing ;;ludncss nil the while ! There is music, solemn music, Stealing through the church-isles dim, Sweeping high in lofty echoes — 'Tis the sacred bridal hymn '. Round the alter they are gathered, Where the bridegroom and the bride Breathe t...
