Here discovered some fresh Indian signs. A stealing party had been in Mexi- co, and had stolen u drove óf horses, we supposed, from the signs, at least 150. We found at the crossing 8 or 9 carcasses the Indians had left, and supposed they had killed the horses to subsist on while crossing the plains, to the head of the Colorado. They had evidently crossed here but 2 or 8 days before we reached hero. They left 2 animals here, a mule and a young Spanish 2 year old filly 1 wo of our men crossed the river on two of our best horses for the pur- pose of decoying them.
