THURSDAY, JANUARY 27, 1972 THE RIO GRANDE HERALD PAGE 14 I I I AUSTIN—Texas Agriculture Commissioner John C. White has released egg law violation figures for the last four months of 1971 showing that during this period of 14,877 lots totalling 1,562,351 eggs were inspected by his Department with approx- imately 2,100 stop-sale orders being issued. Commissioner White noted that most of these "stop-sales" were written on eggs origina- ting out-of-state. The continued T.D.A. emphasis on quality in- spections at the plant level, he added, has resulted in a sharp decline in the number of out- of-state "AA" packs being marketed in Texas. Elaborating on the T.D.A. "in-plant" inspection pro- gram, White said, ''The strat- egy is to identify and solve quality problems before they reach the retail level. This al- lows the packer to make neces- sary corrections before the eggs leave the premises. In turn the retailer is happier with the eggs he receives and the houswife is assured the uni- for...

L - editorial This newspaper believes the best interests of most Texans lie in the nomination in May and the election next November of Ralph Yarborough to the United States Senate. Former Senator Yarborough — he served Just short of 14 years -- is superbly equipped for the Job, towering in experi- ence and ability above all other candidates, actual and tenta- tive, specifically including Republican Senator John Tower against whom Yarborough expects to run in the ffovember gen- eral election. One needs to be no more than a casual student of the Tower record to note that Tower is far more Interested in foreign affairs and in the special-interest pleadings of the Pentagon than he is in domestic needs. It is too early, perhaps, to say what legislative horse Demo- cratic Senator Iloyd Bentsen, Jr., will end up riding most of the time. Yaiiiorough, on the other hand, chose from the day he took office in April of 1957 unti 1 he left it at the opening of the 1971 Congress, to be a fighting ...
