Cricket. --0 - KANGAROO GROUND V.QUEENSTOWN. Thei return match between thie above named clubs took place at Kangaroo Ground on Saturday last, and resulted in a victory for the visitors. THE FERNTREE GULLY RAILWAY. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 17 November 1882

TIHE FERNTREE GULLY RAIL. WAY. A correspondclnt of .Ilf Arque of Tuesday says, respecting this line :-" I was surprised to see in 'lhe Arglu of Wednesday, that [:r. Anderson said, in the Legislative Council, that the proposed line from Ringwood to Fern tree Gully would not pay, as it would only be a holiday.nmakers' line. Surely IMr. Anderson cannot be personally acquainted with the country along the line of route. The land between Ring wood and Ferntreo Gully is well tinm hired, and this would be a fruitful source of traflic for some time. The country is suitable for cultivation, and owing to the rainfall in the noeighbour hood of Feorntree Gully being greater then, tha" of any other district except four or five m-tntu .uu,,., clr .a.1 vegetables can be raised there much later than at any other place within range of Melbourne; by this means the Melbourne markets would be greatly benelitted. Much of the land between Ringwood and Ferntree Gully is already cultivated, and this would d...

Mining News. DIAMOND CREEK. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 17 November 1882

Mining News. DIAMOND CREEK. The Diamond Creek Gold Mining Company, now carrying on operations on Dr. Phipps's property at Nillumbik, and with which is incorporated the old Union claim, promises to have a successful and prosperous career before it. New machinery of a powerful and efficient character, from Longlands Foundry Company, has recently been erected under the supervision of Messrs. George Haley and Wm. Peters. Before the pumps could be got to work, sink- ing operations had to be suspended on account of water, but they have now been resumed, and a week ago a body of stone sixteen feet thick was struck. Upon testing a small quantity excellent results were shown, and good paying returns are anticipated. It is, we un- derstand, intended to continue sinking in both the old and now shafts. A new road has been made between Dr. Phipps's property and the old Union, and overything done to ensure the efficient working of the claim. The Company have gone to work in an enterprising manner...
