Everywhere there is snow, storages of potential electric power building up over 100 square miles-"white coal" for release in the thaw to fill streams and, iri the future, reservoirs, to actuate 17 generators in six power stations strategically planned in a chain which will extend from the plateau of the High Plains through rugged mountain country to the broad Kiewa Valley. At Rocky Valley and Pretty Valley, on the snow-bound High Plains (the sites of the two largest reservoirs in 1 the project), where so recently hun dreds of men lived and toiled, there is I lingering evidence of the occupation prior to "the move." On the post 1. office a "use this address" sign still c show...

MAROONDAH HIGHWAY LEAGUE [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 22 July 1949

M5AROONDAII IIIGHWAY LEAGaUE Yarck 6-5 defeats Merton 2-11. Yarck secured their third victory on Saturday when they outplayed Merton, and won by the comfortable margin of 18 points. Usually a hard t. am to defeat at home, Morton were surprisingly beaten in all departments up until interval. Although the homn sidel' kicking left a lot to b3 de. sired, Yarck fully deserved their lead on actual play. At the beginning of the third term Merton stormed for ward and kept up the attack for al. most all the quarter, but Yarck man nged to maintain a slender load, and came out in confident style at the last uhange. With their bhack line show ing great dash and the forwards doing all required of them Yarck forged alhead co win by 18 points. ALEXANDRA DEFEATS YEA. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 22 July 1949

ALEXANDRA DEFEATS YEA. By gaining their fifth successive win on Saturday last Alexandra, when playing at home against Yea, now enter the first four. The game was of a scrambling nature for the most part, with occasional flashes of good, open football, and was marred no doubt by the wintry conditions, the slippery state of the ground, and er ratic decisions by the umpire. As usual, when these teams meet, a good, close finish is expected, and a large crowd of supporters encour aged the teams, the gate takings ag gregating £63. Spectators were not disappointed, as throughout the game there was little difference between the scores. A feature of the game probably the innacuracy of the Yea forwards. On the initial bounce Alexandra went quickly into .attack, to find the Yea backs impregnable. On onslaught by Yea broke down when Jeffrey, from a free, missed badly. Play see sawed up and down the ground till Butler, racing in, booted to L. Still man, and he did all that was neces sary for Ale...
