DISTRICT NEWS. ['From Our Own Cobbesfondents.] Finley, Wednesday. - The weather during the past week has been bearable as regards the heat, unbearable sa regards tha winds. The latter are all right in their way when you wish to ride a bike the same -direction they are blowing, but when heaps of dust and leaves are lying on the roads, then we don't want wind. | Wind hp hi ruvpri I Gradually the town is justifying its claims to be called one, instead of a village, and if the number of tents which have been erected lately on the wee spare bit of vacant land about here are any criterion, their our 'town' will have the prefix ' Canvas ' tacked to it. But other substantial buildings are bein,g erected besides a few henhouses, etc. If *t goes on at the same rate it has done during the last three months , then all we'll want to complete our happiness is a municipality and a — gaol. May the most urgent come first. , The Race Club held a meeting on Saturday night last, at Tindale's Hotel, aud...

Urana. Tuesday. [Newspaper Article] — Jerilderie Herald and Urana Advertiser — 21 January 1898

Vranu. Tuesday, As yet there is no sign of rain. We are having plenty of dust, but fortunately it is not quite so hot as it was last week. The water in our local dam is getting lower every day, and I consider the trustees of our Park ought to discontinue pumping so much water just to keep a few trees growing. Of course it would be a great pity to allow the trees to die, but the supply should be very much moderated, and the water should not be allowed to run over so as to go to waste ; the windmill should not be allowed to go-as- you-please. Drinking water for human con- sumption should be the first care of our governing body. While on the subject of dam I may state again that some people here are still in the habit of swimming their horses in the creek. Surely there must be some law by which these people could be prohibited from doing such a wrong to people who have to drink the water. Of course the owners of the swimming horses have underground tanks and do not drink the polluted a...
