PALMERSTON DISTRICT. COUNCIL. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER lOrrr. Present: The Chairman, and Coimcillors Harvey Hillson, and Adcock. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Two tenders were received for repairing Mitchell-strcct, near the Hospital ; Ah Ming £6, Ah Que, £3 10>.. Resolved that tender of Ah Que be accepted: One appeal was received against thc assessment. Resolved on thc motion of Cr. Harvey, seconded by Cr. Hillspn, that |he appeal be not entertained. A letter was received from J. G. Kelsey, informing the Council that he was prepared to collect all rates due by ratepayers resi- dent in Adelaide on payment of two-and-a half per cent. Resolved that the letter be acknowledged, informing him the Council decline to entertain his offer. Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of South Australia wrote offering td accept risk of Town Hall at 5s. per cent- Resolved that offer he accepted, the risk to he £750 on building and £250 on furniture. COUNTRY MINING AND GENERAL NEWS. J. Webb is getting good stone nt No 7 South Union. Water at tho Union is becoming very scarce. Bcetson Brothers have not yet been successful in lloating their claim in Adelaide. Mr. Lu canns ir. ct with an accident the other day through his horses bolting and throwing him out of the buggy. Ile had his legs bruised a good deal and the buggy was smashed. A new leader has been got on No. 4 Alta, bearing splendid gold. Wherever the stone breaks good gold can be seen. The stone crashes remarkably well. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.-) Mr. J. H. Lawrie's Claim.-This claim was occupied on the ll th of June, of this present year, anti is situated North West of Spring Hill Company. The first reef discovered I opened 20ft. along the linc to a depth of 27ft., the stone averaging 6ft. wide, and prospects for 3ozs. per ton. Owing to tho scarcity of tools only two men wero employed for the first month. About 70 tons are now on grass from this reef. In anticipation ...
