BENALLA ROAD BOARD ELECTION. To the Editor of the Benalla Ensign. [Newspaper Article] — The Benalla Ensign and Farmer's and Squatter's Journal — 6 August 1869

BENALLA ROAD BOARD ELEOTION. 2'o the Editor of the Benalla Ensign. Sir,-1 felt rather amused at Mr Simson's meeting the other eoening on hearing a long harangue: from that gentleman on the advantages of borrowing money.for making ronds. Now, without stoppilg to inquire whether this would be a judicious course to pursue, my own opinion is that it would not, even if boards had the power to borrow, but seeing that they have no such power surely the meeting might, not have been bored with such a subject. If Mr S. has been able to hunt any authority giving boards this power it must, I fancy, be in the Book of Maccabees. I have once heard of a man who was not unfrequently compli iiented for holding hisetoncue when he did not know what to say, and I am of opinion that Mr S. would ant wisely by doing ditto. I think, too, that the electors will act wrong in returning Mr S. at presoet, seeing that the pound fees, trespass fees, and conm nonages, &o., are still unsettled. RATEPAYER. 4t...
