Land Seekers. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 28 June 1912

Land Seekers. The thousands of persons who arc continually following up land ballots in tlio hope of securing an area 011 which to found a home (says the 'Evening News') nro willing to take their chances of securing a prize, and only blamo their luck when they draw a blank. 1 hough they suffer disappointment time after time, and their little stock of cash dwindles away, they iccognise that they have had a fair chance, and patiently wait till fortune comes their way. But all those who are debarred from the ballot by the Land Board must feel something more than disappointment, especially those who believe thoy have every qualification necessary for successfully working the land. Those 236 applicants who were thrown out by the Land Board at Warren must, to put it mildly, be seriously annoyed. Probably a good many of them had no claim to consi deration whatever, but it is said that some were turned out simply because they were business men or unmarried women. The Act does not give the b...

Sydney Firm Victimised. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 28 June 1912

Sydney Firm Victimised. I For some moullis the police and dotoctivcs have only received small reports of cargo broaching, which arc inevitable at a port where large shipping business is done. In the latter part of last week, however, a caso of broaching was reported to the detectives, in which a big haul lias been sccured. Messrs. Lloyd and Collins, mercers and outfitters, 306 George-street, city, ordered a large case of French costumes some months ago from a firm in Paris. Tho case reaehed Sydney on Monday by the French mail steamer Dumbea, and ou Tues day was unshipped and taken by cart to Lloyd and Collins' stores. There was nothing about tho caso to excite suspicion, and it bore no traco of having been tampered with. On Wednesday, however, one;of the firm's storemen was ordered to open the case, and on removing the lid found that Iho zinc lining had been cut open, and a quantity of the con tents extracted. A comparison of the costumes left in the case, with the invoice showed th...
