(To the Editor.) [Newspaper Article] — Portland Observer and Normanby Advertiser — 15 January 1914

(ro the Editor.) Sir,-I noticed in the last issue of your paper a reference to the success of Mr. R. Campbell. As his tutor, I would like to point out two errors in that reference,- firstly,- the examina tion for which he eºntercd was not Junior Public Service but Junior Public Examination of the Melbourne University,-secondly,-he has not been so successful as you say. The following are the facts, if they would be of any value to you in cor rection. Mr. Campboll entered for five subjects and was successful in that he seoured distinctions in Arithmetic and Algebra, and passes in Geography, Geometry, and Drawing. Hle still needs to complete Latin ail English in the forthcoming Supplementary E. aminations -I am, yours respectfully, J. R. WILSON.

" I am writing about the amount of good CLEMENTS TONIC has done my daugh ter. In January last year, she was operated upon for appendicitis. She was eight weeks in the hospital, and came home very weak and run down. I gave her several bottles of Clements Tonic. It soon strengthened her nerves, she was as well as I could wish her before long. Fourteen years ago I first used this medicine as a nurse and have recommended it times out of number. SWIMMINC AND LIFE SAVINC. The teachers' swimming classes have been continued without interruption, and students have gained in proficiency every day, besides having generally a good time. Land breezes having pre vailed, the sea has been as smooth as a lake, and this has been very helpful to neophytes in acquiring the initial '/ . - , . art of. floating. The syllabus mappe . out at the beginning has been closely adhered to," and good, 'practical work has been done. Yesterday a public demonstration was given in swimming and rescue work by Mr. Frank Beaurepaire, the camp commandant. The old pier head was chosen as the site of operations so that a.charge might be made for the Portland hosj ital. As a protection for. swimmers against the possibility of a. shirk making its appearance a paddock was formed of nets, within which thi: exercises took place.
