FORMATION OF A MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.   In compliance with, a requisition addressed to His Worship the Chairman of the Muni- cipal Council, a public meeting was held at   the Assembly Rooms, on Thursday evening last to take into consideration the necessary steps for the, establishment of a Mechanics'   Institution in Williamstown. The meeting was well attended, and the requisition having been read, Mr Mason was voted to the chair The Chairman explained that. the Muni cipal Council had applied to Government for a grant of land whereon to erect a Mechanics' Institute, .and for the sum of £1000 to be placed on the estimation to, assist in such erection.
