MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY RELATIONS. . Students were, no doubt, intrigued by the reference in this week 1 s . 'Crimes' to the visit of a party of Professors etc from Melbourne within the next few weeks. We certainly were - so muchso that we rang up the Registrar to find out the true story# . ; : It- appears that an official party from Melbourne University, comprising Professors Pat on (Law and A/g Vice Chancellor), 'Crawford (Arts) and Pert (Commerce) with- Mr# Johnston, ( Registrar ) will 'be visiting the Canberra University College next; .month with! the primary object of gaining on the spot experience as to the adequacy of the existing liaison between Melbourne and Canberra, with particular reference to the present method of examining. Naturally several matters of an ..ijic.id.ental administrative nature, such as the more rapid approval of our course pkrds by Melbourne, will be discussed, and generally much benefit to us should result from the - visit# \ We are assured by the Registra...

MEN'S HOCKEY. [Newspaper Article] — Student Notes/Canberra University College Students Association — 11 July 1947

MEN'S HOCKEY, * ' A# Grade University v R.M#C# In the match against R#M.C. last Saturday, the Firsts were successful by 5 goals to nil, despite the adverse weather conditions; perhaps they suited us as our forward line certainly functioned better ^than usual. The game was played under most trying conditions with parts of the field under water with the result that players skidded and slipped all over the place# We had the best of the game but excellent work by the R#M.C. goalie kept us at bay on many occasions# ^ur first score came from a scrimmage in the R#M#C, circle with Val Gratton finding the net# Shortly after this score a good passing movement down the right wing saw Bruce Holgate centreing at the right moment for Jim Pead to make no mistake and we led by 2 goals to nil# Play opened up and R#M.C# attacked but staunch defence by Bob Whitelaw, Jack Garrett and Edgar Riek kept our line from J ? ? ? ? _a ? ? ? ? j ? t _ «i ?* _ ? tit t r ? i i ? ? 1 i . uaiiger, ail a mciaeniiaiiy...

The study circle on the Epistle to the Romans has drawn to an end - much to the profit of all who took part in the study. MENS HOCKEY. [Newspaper Article] — Student Notes/Canberra University College Students Association — 18 July 1947

I, a. - ' - ' ' ' ' ? MENS HOCKEY.., : ' A. Grade : Last Saturday University, with a re-organised forward line took the; field against' the strong Northern .Suburbs team and played virtually t.he best match of the year to hold Norths to-, a 1 all draw.. We were in faot masters of our opposition and, except for the excellent goal- keeping by Jack Poynton, would' have ' run out easy viators. This game was described, on the radio commentary of last Saturday ' night as 'scrappy'; a feature with which your, correspondent fails to ' agree# * From the opening .bully, Norths moved ;-rapidly . downfi eld and brought a 25-yard bully in the first few minutes of the match. After this initial shock to our side play was fast and we soon had the opposition in' a defensive role*' Seve^ajl shots from our forwards failed to reach the required position. Norths again went' into action and a rather weak shot managed to cross' the sand patch and find the' back of our goal. This gave Norths a lead; a lead...
