GARFIELD. [Newspaper Article] — Bunyip Free Press and Berwick Shire Guardian — 8 January 1914

GARFIELD. There is nothing fresh to relate iu the Way of important news since the holidays. Our town was extremely lively on Christmas and New Year Eves and the shopkeepers did. good business on both occasions. Since the holidays, however, money has become scarce and business has slacked off to below normal conditions. Three ncw.sliops in the maiu street in front of the railway station help to improve the appearance of the town, whilst the rccent lire at Mr. Dess's shops has left an ugly gap in the chief part of the town that requires refilling. The difforenco of opinion between two local residents over tho tresspass of cattle, breaking of fences, etc., will probably be thrashed out iu the court as the " difference'' is too great to prevent both sides from settling their troubles without trouble. From what I have heard of tho matter I am more convinced than ever that the lady.who would stand no nonsense over the cows will secure the best of tho deal. Tho lad McMillan, who .was very ...
