MISCELLANEOUS. Daring the discharge of the cargo from the s.s. Investigator at Jtoonta, on Monday morning,an un fortunate accident occurred to one of the seamen who had his leg broken through some cases Tailing out of a sling upon it.. Prompt measures were, however, taken by Captain Ban? to have the enflferer removed by carriage to the Wallaroo hospital,so that as little delay as possible occurred in obtaining medical aid, the leg having been temporarily set by Dr James at Hoonia. Oaring the latter part of last week, much excitement was caused in fishing circles at our port by the advent of some large turtle on our coast. It would be almost impossible to say what ths probabie weight and 6ize of these animals were, as accounts received from various sources were particularly conflicting. -¥he maximum weight being put down as fifteen hundred weight and the size twelve feet square whilst the minimum size was given as four feet square and the weight at three huudredweight. THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. j - LondoD, August 6. The Australian Eleven began a match to-day against Keht,>t Canterbury. The ground still suffered from the recent rams and was against the batsmen. The yisi tors began batting, and at luncheon had scored 95 runs for six wicketi, Jones, who has beep laid op with a severe attack of rheumatic fever, was sufficiently re covered to play. The remaining four men raised the total to 116, Jones, remaining not ont with 24. Other double figure scorers were McDonnell 23, Trott 18, 23dwards 18, Sent then went to the wickets, and were all got rid of for 107 runs. Turner captured 4 for 41, Ferris 5 for 44, and Worrall 1 for 14. A few minuteB were left - for play, and the colonials made 6 runs without losing a wicket before stumps were drawn.
