THE FRIGHT OF NEW TORE. The meeting on Wednesday evening of last week at Cooper Institute ot prominent New York merchants and others, to coneider the transportation question, was large and earnest enough to show that this subject is one of vital importance and of general interest tp the country, and especially to the City of New York, in whose interests mainly, the meeting was held. Two burdens, the extortion of carriers and inadequate transportation were made prominent by jthe speaker^ and the attention of both the Eastern merchants, and the Western farmers was directed to them as tbe chief causes of evil complained of.
