- SENATOR HARRY WHITE. The letter of Major Harry White, resigning his seat in the; Senate of PennSyJ; vania, which has justk been made public, is one to gladden the heart of every loyal man, and make every : Copperhead blush for shame. Though written, in a loathsome prison at the rebel capital, amid circum? stances ' to make the stoutest spirit fail, its tone is hearty, " loyal, ' patriotic and brave, and Major White shows that he knows by instinct who are the enemies of the country in the Senate hall of his native State. The letter was penned some time before the period for the assembling ' of the Senate, but the writer, even then, • felt that if loyal legislation was embarrassed, it would be by the.Copperheads. He"adds a ^ few words to the generous people of bis district, and says : *'Be kind enough to convey to my brother Senators assurances of respect and esteem. Tell them ' though cast down -I am not dismayed;' though" in bonds, I am full of hope. Tell, them my prayer a...

Government will benefit the rebels. It-will help thejSonth to have a Copperhead'or lukewarm administration at Washington, and it will darken rebel prospects if President Lincoln lie re-elected! : There can be no question lut that eVery ardenWebel feels like this Eichmond, jpurnalisti They know perfectly well "that the Copperheads are the enly Northern people who will submit to an imbecile and degrading compromise with tre£son, and they are awarje, that through-the efforts of President Lincoln in the White Hens...

ANOTHER BORDER ALARM. - A report in a .New York paper says that Imboden's rebel cavalry have crossed the ^p tomac-into Maryland and are threatening a raid into Pennsylvania. If true, we are not snre that good may not accrue to She Union cause, though some individuals may Buffer*. The people of some of the border counties want stirring up. They need to he " conyiaced once more of the necessit y t)f keeping up; local military organization? for Self-defence; The people of the" whole State need arousing, andthe spirit of volunteering needs a stimulus. We are not sure ^that a rebel raid into Pennsylvania will not do more towards ' filling tip our quota of troops than anything else. But we caution our readers against accepting the New York rumor a's trueuntil .it is officially confirmed. There have been so many false stories, set afloat latel y by stock speculators, that we must not believe any new ones without something to corroborate them.
