The Citizen. SrN'DAY, APRIL 10, 1S81 Arlrona'.- Chlof Toru. The knowing ouea () predicted that when the railroad was completed to Tucson, it would kill the town, but it did not " kill the town." "When it passed through to Benson it wt "sure to bury Tucsou in financial ruin, aod but a short time would pse before our whole population .uld follow." 2f oue of these things cam. to pass. Our town, on the con 1 -ary, has continued to prosper and grow every day since the first locomo tive made iu advent. The extension oi tb railroad did taKe some of the stage business from Tucson, but even that has continued to grow and in crease by the opening up of new reu;es, until now it far surpasses its forn er proportions. Regular stages now ply between Tucson ttnd the Old Hat District, Silver Bell District, Ar iraca and Oro Blanco, and Altar and Ilerniosillo, connecting with all of the leading towns in Sonora, Mexico. Our prospects are good for two or three narrow pauge railroads in the star future;...

The Citizen. SfXDAY, APRIL IT, im What is It All About? , There is something In connection f with, the action of the Agent of the San Carlos Indians, m his zeal to pro tect the interest of the Indian by or dering white men away from the Deer Creek coal fields and from that neigh borhood whether they have encroached upon lands which is included within the bounds of the reservation or not, which we do not quite understood. 'It is the more strange when we take nto consideration the fact well known 'j many prospectors in that locality, Jiat while men hare been in the same - country and upon the very ground on winch the coal discoveries have been niadc, prospecting for silver, time, and again, but they were never warned off, neither were they in any way made aware that they were en-1 c reaching upon the San Carlos In dian Reservation. Then, again, when these coal fields ware first dis covered, the ARent at San Carlos made application to the Surveyor Gtneral at this place to re-survey the...

S. Marshals or Sheriffs who came to effectuate the arrests, ilany arrests "were made and the prisouois handed over to the American officers who held the extradition papers. The Citizen. SUNDAY, MAY P, 1SS1 Tlie Irirl-Appl Case. Contrary to the expectations of al most every one, tlic jury in the case of the Territory versus the Meyers Brothers failed to agree seven heme in favor of acquittal ami live for con viction. After a careful resiling of the evidence it is hard to understand why the jury did not " bring in a ver dict of guilty." The people had a richt to expect such a verdict. All of c - the evidence went toshow tLat Meyers Brothers perpetrated the crime with which the' were charged, yet seven of the jurymen w ho heard all the evi dtncei in the case have declared by their verdict that the- were innocent. If this is the way justice is to be meted out in Pima county-, we might as w ell abolish our courts and the jury stteni. The Citizen. SUNDAY, MAY 15, JS1 The most unpopular political body In the United States Is probably a State Legislature. The partisan en thusiasm of a campaign being over, and the thousand and one impossible pledges of the successful candidate being relegated to the shades of obliv ion, they meet in accordance vith law and usage and proceed to neglect public business and iook after private perquisites in a manner highly enter taining to any one but the unfortunate taxpayer.
