A POLITICAL. COMMUNICATION. Wc arc iu receipt of a commit nication this week from some of our republican friends at Lincoln, which makes a strong- plea for the nomination of Judge Mann for delegate to congress, There arc two reasons, however, why wc refrain from publishing the letter, notwithstanding a desire on our part to accommodate our Lincoln friends, and they arc: First, to do so would place the Ninvs in a position of taking a partisan stand in republican af fairs, a position it docs not like to assume; for other candidates for this honor have loyal sup porters in this county, and the Nitws docs not wish to incur their displeasure by taking part in an affair which is, and properly, to be settled by republicans alone. Second: The communication was unsigned, save by the mere word "Committee," and communication for publication must have un individual signature attached; though( if the writer requests it, the article may appear and the writer's name withheld. Those who a fuw weeks ago were prophesying Mr. Tuft's election us "a dead sure tiling" arc beginning to realize that Mr. Uryaii, after all, has his chances. True, he has been twice defeated, defeated principally by the de fection of sections of his own party who disliked his program. ANDREWS WINS. Pursuant to call, the republi cans met in Wclmorc's hall Mon day night and elected five dele gates to attend the republican county convention at Lincoln, on the llth inst. The regular coun ty call allowed this precinct only one delegate, based on the vote of 1906, but the increase in that party's strength the past two years in this precinct induced the republicans to elect five delegates and ask that they be seated in the county convention, The live delegates chosen arc: IraO. Wet more, Wm. F. A. Gierke, Jose Scrano, William Kahlcr and C. L. Davis. There was not a ripple on the surface over the selection of these delegates, but when it was pro posed to instruct them for An drews a few protested that it was bad policy so to do: for the reason that it would mean the support of a weak candidate. Two or three rather good talks were made in opposition to instructing the dele gates, but they availed little; and when the question was voted on those opposed to instructions sat...
