natlrdat mobxiaq, juut u. Ruffianism.?Last night some half dozen men wearing the uniform, and supposed to be soldiers, indulged in a series of ruffianly transactions of the most disgraceful character, and such ai would not be indulged in by any tru? soldier, who* had served his country faithfully. The men who commit such acts are those who skulked in the hour of danger, and were always known as stragglers when there was any prospect of a battle. This party entered the store of Mr. E. Berberet, about nine o'clock, and shut off the gas, and talked in a boisterous and threatening manner. Mr. B. was absent at the time, having left the store in charge of his wife. They finally left, and proceeded down street to the store of Mr. K. F. Caldwell. Two of the par ty entered and conducted themselves in the same manner, shutting off the gas ami using threatening language. It is supposed their object was to plun der, though Mr. Caldwell does not know if anything was taken while the store remaine...

MOMPAY MOBjflSB, JCI.T 17. Calico Pkintino.?On Satarday we spent a very pleasant hourin theiCalico Printing establishment of ^lessrs J. Jj. Stifel <fc Sons. The process of coloring and printing the cloths is very Interest ing, and in many particulars, quite dif ferent from what we had supposed, re quiring on the part of the manager a display of science and skill far beyond what we had heretofore thought neces sary for the prosecution of the business. The younger Mr. Stifel who showed us through their establishment, and ex plained the operations of dyeing and printing, are thorough masters of the business, well versed in the science of chemistry, and the art of producing colors, and in connection with their father, have succeeded in establishing for their goods a .high reputation in all the markets of the country. They have devoted their attention almost entirely to the production of that particular class of goods known ns domestic bines, in this branch they now excel, and their p...
