These ships have all been constructed of Columbia county fir and were entirely Colum bia county products. Besides these four large vessels, several smaller A Portion of ones and a number of barges and tugs have been built here. The plant of the St. Helens Shipbuilding Com pany is one of the most complete on the Pacific Coast. The vessels turned out here are the largest wood vessels built and have a carrying capacity of 1,000,000 feet of lumber and first-class accomodations for six ty passengers. On October 12th, 1912, the first of these boats, the IT y - ; pPf & 7, The Crew of Shipbuilders. "Multnomah," was successfully launched, since which time the "Merced" and "Colilo" have followed and now the fourth vessel is almost ready to slide into the water. TIMBER: About seven and one half to eight billion feet. ASSESSED VALUE OF TIMBER: $11,467,180. ASSESSED VALUE OF TILLABLE LAND: $911,355. TOTAL ASSESSED VALUATION OF ALL PROPERTY: $18,000,000. MILES OF COUNTY ROADS: 500 miles, some of which is in first class condition, some in fair condition and some in very poor condition. I YAXKTOX JiEWS 1 Mrs. Joseph Sobiskey was thrown from her carriage one day last week and received some slight injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Lnnipa spent a few days camping in the hills be yond Yankton. Clinton Scott cut his foot very bad ly with on axe whjle cutting wood. Mr. Quick and Mr. Doming passed through Yankton last week on their way home from camping up in the mountains. The Improved Order of Red Men will give a hard time dunce on Satur day, August 29. Trizes will be given for costumes. -Mrs. May Brlggs was Bhopping last week in Portland. Mrs. Bushongs' mother from Port land is visiting In her home here. A wreck occured last week on the Masten logging rail road. The eng ine crashed into the bunk houses and turned over, and fell over the bank. The engineer and firemen saved their lives by jumping off.
