ffS. The Alert, DAILY AND WEEKLY MARSHALL McCLUItE. As will be seen in the telegraph dis patcher Michigan has fallen into line in the lynching business. It cannot be de nied that these kind of executions arc be coming distressingly prevalent, and yet who cancondemn them under the circuin A stances? It is the crime that is avenged by-these execution parties that is becom ing alarmingly prevalent, and there seem to be a well settled determination ou the part of the people to exterminate the criminals of this class if thep caunot pre vent the crime. There is a point beyond which forbearance ceases to be a virtue and this is that point. Those two editors down at New Orleans who went upon the field of "onali" a few days ago may be proud of the spirit that stirred up their "blud," but they must be everlastingly ashamed of tliuir marksman ship. Five rounds and only a leg scratch. After the first round or two it was seen the scconds were anxious to adjust the difficulty, for a very pa...

The Sale of the Court House Bonds—A Ge ologist Takes a Survey of the Country—New Park. The Dally Gathering In of News General and Special by the Band of Alert Reporter*. Goinr Out West. From the Daily, Tnceday When the eastern man looks on the map and traccs out in the far distant northwest until his head begins to swim, he points to Dakota territory, and to him the country beyond that seems almost a myth, almost incomprehensible. In the eastern states, Ohio, Indiana and Illi nois are called the West and Minnesota the far Northwest. But beyond that they look upon it as going to a foreign coun try almost, and never think that those distant countries have a west as well. But all these vagaries vanish as the pilgrim sweeps over space at the rate of thirty and forty miles an hour for days and nights in succession. You never think of the train going over the jumpin...

TOWN TOEICS. The Glorious Fourth Committees Ap pointed to make Arrangements for the Grand Celebration. They all say James Biver Valley is the Garden Spot of the Great Northwest. The New Park BCeetlnv Last Night and Other Subjects of Interest to the Alert Headers. The Toy Pistol Nuisance. As the Fourth of July approaches the toy pistol and torpedo nuisance, together with other juvenile annoyances and dia bolical inventions make their advent. Armed with these implements of torture the small boy is a terror before whom the pirate would quail and retreat. He is an Arab, a tornado, a pestiferous nuisance. He might go out on the bluffs and lire away all day and no one would object for it would disturb no one. But he is not that kind of a hair pin. His ambition is to be in the thickest of the crowd, and he gets there by some means or other. He is not particular as to the means. With him the end justifies the means. He may be seen wedging himself through the crowd, occasionally making som...

'-•••ii '-'3 -H •B 7- 8MK rWFP DAILY AND WEEKLY MARSHALL McCLURE. The crop prospect in tlic northwest so far as reported seems to be unusually fa vorable, and people are now making pre parations for the ^harvesting of a large and excellent crop. With a wheat crop suclras we may now reasonably expect will make Dakota boom until it can be heard all over the world. Harvesting is now in progress down in Kansas, and the reports say that the crop is much above the average, both in quan tity and quality. The yield is estimated at from twenty-five to forty bushels per acre* Heretofore the farmers have lost a great deal of wheat after it was put into the shock in consequence of heavy and continued rains, and it remains to be seen how they will fare in that respect by the weather this year. An extensive lumbering enterprise has sprung up in the Lake of the Woods region in Manitoba. A company has obtained a lease of all the islands in the lake for the purpose of cutting the timber, and have...

Ths Alsrt, DAILY AND WEEKLY MARSHALL McCLURE. Now if the newspapers will unite in suppressing Guiteau's name he will socn be the deadest man that overlived. TIms,Minneapolis Journal of yesterday evening had a bonanza front the Guiteau hanging iu Washington. Having the ex elusive use of the afternoon associated press dispatches in that city, the sales of the paper were no doubt enormous. It is an ill wind that blows nobody any good. Mrs. Scovillc, whose unwavering devo tioirTto her unworthy and thankless brother commands the sympathy aud res pect of the whole country, took leave of hira in a very sensible and becoming man lier, and if she now retires to that seclu sion becoming i» sensible woman under the circumstances the sympathy aud esteem of the public will increase. When the Alert glances over the turbu lent political field in Minnesota it con gratulates the people that Dakota is not a state.
