NORTHERN TRIBUNE SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1875. INDUCE KMIGRATIOJf. The American people as a class are restless, full of energy, and are always ready to take advantage of everything which looks towards bettering their con dition in life. Prominent among this class are the farming community, who, in reality, are the basis of all our national prosperity. There are always those in every part of the country who arc ready and-anxiou3 to go where fortune seems most' to favor. Sometimes there seems to be a mania to go to one part of the country and sometimes to another. One . of the earliest recollections of the writer was the "Minnesota fever," when it seemed that nearly everybody took up their line of march for that lavoreu sec tion. That resulted in the settlement and improvement of that state more rap idly than almost any other. Since that time it has been Iowa, Kansas, and Cali fornia and several other states. For the past year there has been quite an excite ment regarding the northern p...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE. 8ATURDAY, NOVEMBER C, 1875. CITEBO YG ANS GREAT OPPORTUNITY. In the life of every man there is a point when great possibilities open up before him. If he sec these opportunities, and has the nerve to cope with them, and take advantage of them, his life, is a suc cess. If, on the other hand, he fails to comprehend these opportunities, and al lows them to pass unimproved, his life is a failure. This point rarely comes more than once in a lifetime. We can look around us and see examples without number. In this respect the lives of towns and villages are similar to the lives of men. Cheboygan's great oppor tunity 13 now before it. Whether it will thoroughly comprehend it and take ad vantage of it, is lor its citizens to deter mine. The full consumation of the pro ject of the navigation of our inland wa ters is that great opportunity. Thus far the work which has placed the project in its present hopeful shape ha3 been done by a (ew. They have labored hard and earnestlj,...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1875. TCS CITIZENS ASSOCIATION. . . In the local columns of this Issue will be found the proceedings of : a meeting of citizens taking the preliminary steps towards organizing an association for the advancement of the material welfare of Cheboygan. Tho attendance upon that meeting was not as large as its Import ance demanded. . It Is a matter In which every citizen should be Interested, and one which-should receive their hearty co-operation; and we think this would be the case did they fully understand its Importance. It should not be an asso ciation composed only of those who have t the largest material interests, but should consist of every business man and propyl erty owner in the place. Every man. be he poor or rich, can have an influence ' for or against the place. All that influ ence should be brought to bear in favor ; of the place; and not only that, but It . should be brought to bear In the man- ,; ner which would bring about the most...
