When the holiday season is all over and gone, the presents bought annd given and received, and the bills either paid or slaring us in the face with accusation and re proach, we are very apt to ask our selves if the pleasure has been worth the pains, an l if, indeed, this system of gift-giving is not degenerating into a task and bur den, instead of being, as it used to be, a satisfaction and pleasure. We have been at work perhaps for uwontlis beforchand with nee tlleand pencil, if we are one kind of giver; we have put off to the last moment the uninteresting act of counting out our money, if we are the other kind of giver.
