Contents Reveal Events By James Persky The cornerstone of the St. John Lutheran Church was opened on the morning of January 10 1982 In honor of the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the building. Among the things that had been placed in the corner- stone were two newspapers a Bartlett Tribune and a Holland Progress. A fire in the Tribune office In 1933 destroyed all of the back issues from the years 1929 to 1932. The files of the Holland Progress go back only to about 1941 Both of the papers from the cornerstone date back to 1931 which probably makes them the only copies In existence I was allowed to see those papers this week The copy of The Bartlett Tribune and News is dated Friday August 21 1931 It. F. Gates was editor and owner. Among the things reported in that paper were the follow- ing paragraphs: "More earthquake tre- mors following those of Sun- day morning were felt in Bartlett about noon Tuesday. "The tremors were report- ed to cover considerable area but not as stron...

Thus if a person Is born on any day but the first or second of the month they will be eligible for payments beginning with the month after the month they become 62. For exam- ple a person born November 8 1919 would become entitled beginning December 1981 the first full month that they arc age 62. Tom had been taken to Sunday school and church by neighbors during boyhood years but during his youth associates turned his attention to other activities. Several years later as father and husband Tom had a new encounter with Christ. He realized God's new creation transforming his interests and attitudes after a decade of separation from the church.
