The President said in his inaugural address last March: " It is the doc- trine of the Federal Constitution, that no State can go out of this Un- ion; and, moreover, Congress can- not, eject a State from this Union." Andrew Johnson may not be a Cal- vinist, but this remark clearly proves him to bo a Jackson Democrat, and a firm believer in the integrity of the Union, and the " final perseverance " of the States.
