w BOH GROVE SIGNAL PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY Signal Pub. Co. - Publishers J. H. LOWRY Editor SENATOR BAILEY'S LATEST. Hon. Joseph Weldon Bailey, United States Senator from Texas, is a man who will occupy a seat close to the center of the stage until the curtain is finally rung down upon his career as an actor upon the stage o f life. The Senator is built that way and couldn't help if he would, though there is no evidence tending to show that he would if he could. Perhaps it would not be a grave error to give the Texas statesman the title of "the man of the superlative degree." When he's nice he's nicer than most any- body, but when he's bad he's horrid. When h e speaks h e makes a better speech than any- body who addresses himself to to the subject, and when he takes a notion to do uncalled-for, un- becoming things, he can give all others cards and spades and then leave them out o f the game. Some of the prettiest things and some of the ugliest things in print were uttered by Senator B...

Johns' cotton sold for 15 cents, and his gross income was upward of $225 an acre. He owns a plan- tation of rich alluvial soil in the St. Francis valley—soil deposited there in previous ages by the Mississippi river.
