DAILY MERCURY - JAN. 6, 1874 ths election void. Our Supreme Court yesterday, by a unanimous vote, decided that the late election held in this State was "unconstitutional, null roid." "They gave the entire doubtless that serious consideration commensurate with its grave importance. -■ To properly understand the case, it may not be here out of place to briefly recapitulate the facts: A Mexican named Eoderi- suez was arrested on the charge of having voted twice in this city on election day. The arrest was made in Travis county, and the District Judge being absent, the accused was brought before the Supreme Court on a writ of habeas corpus. The order was obtained from Judge Ogden, who made it returnable to the court in place of to himself. Eoderignez, the accused, secured :the services of ex-Governor A. J. Hamilton, who'made the point, that the election was unconstitu- tional, hence his client could not be guilty of any crime. Col. Goldthwaite and others for the State took the ground, a...
