AGRICULTURAL. [Newspaper Article] — St Arnaud Mercury — 18 February 1914

AGRICULTURAL, a The reporb of Mr, Pye, the principal of Dookie College, furnishes interesting details in regard to wheat growing in that looality. The report says :-This r season " Currawa," a new wheat bred at the Oollege, judging from the reports o of a number of farmers who have tried it, must have averaged close on 30 bushels per acre, The returns given varied from 18 to 4S hu.hela per acre, a few being under 20 bushels, The main factor of its success, compared with other prolifico varieties was no doubt its better rust resisting powers, r "COommonwpalth," another new wheat bred at the Oollege, is less rust.resistant , -in that respect being about the same as Federation, Some very fine yields were obtained where rust was not prevalent-up to 40 bushels to the acre, Already about 1375 bags of wheat have been sold this season, and the demand is such that many refusals had to be made of some varieties, During the season over 900 fixed seedlings have been selected from stud plots, Ab...
