-I ALEXANDRA SWIMMING CARNIVAL. WEATHER MILITATES AGAINST SUCCESS. - 0-------- The Alexandra Swimming Club was unfortunate on Monday, January. 2, when it held a carnival at the Alex andra baths, as the weather was far from suitable for such a promotion. The.consequence was that the attend ance was not nearly as large as the club hoped for. However, all events were keenly contested, with some very close finishes being witnessed. Officials kept things going, with no delay, which made things quite pleas. ant for the competitors and those peo ple who were interested enough to attend. Your State Government. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 20 January 1950

Youri State LGovernment. By Philip S. Grimwade. During the last few months of last year much was said of the administra tion of your State Government, and it is but right that some record should be made of its activities and adminis tration, which have been for the bet terment of all in the State. When the Hollway Government was commissioned conditions in the State's industries' were chaotic, and we were crippled by strikes and Industrial un .rest. Transport was constantly dis rupted through strikes and lack of fuel 'and~~poer, and gas and electric ity wero rationed more often than not.

ALEXANDRA HERD TESTING ASSOCIATION. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 20 January 1950

ALEXANDRA HERD TESTING ASSOCIATION. At the last meeting of this associa tiori t was decided that, in view of the lnumber of dairy farmers wishing to bring their herds under test, an ef fort should be made to commence an additional unit. There appears to be a distinct pos sibility of obtaining another tester, but equipment may present greater difficulties. However, if the obstacles can be overcome and an. additional unit formed, it will be possible to zone the territory and reduce the travel ling time of the tester. A meeting is to be held to-night ;(Friday) to deal with any outstand ing business of the association and the matter of forming an extra unit will probably. be decided. Any dairymen, therefore, who are interested in test ing are invited to attend the meet ing, or to indicate to any of the exe cutive their interest, so that no time need be lost in making -testing facili ties available to all who wish to test. Lack of raw materials and fuel were a constant problem. Now, indu...

ENGINEER'S REPORT. rt Mr. Thompson reported: SSanitary Services, Alexandra and Thornton (G. L. and S. C. Lister). In progress. Summer Track to F. Darmody's, off Scrubby Creek Road.-Culvert at the junction; power grading to reduce side slope and junction of road at top end, 48. Creek Outlet, Les Norbury and J. McEvoy's, Town of Alexandra.-The drainage area is 355 acres. The run off would be 302 c.f. second for a 11 inch rainfall, with a percentage run off of 50 per cent. The correct thing to do would be to run a straight lined drain from where the creek is well contained in its banks in section 21 to U.T. Creek. Cost would be £2000. The alternative is to clean out creek in section 21 to the road culvert in Rose street. This would take care of 140 c.f. second leaving the balance of 162 c.f. second to flood Norbury's and McEvoy's. The cleaning out of the creek would be an annual job, and initial cleaning would cost £50. Nicholson's Bridge, Yarck.-Fifty new deck planks ordered for same....
