MINING. THE MOUNT ZEEHAN. [Newspaper Article] — Zeehan and Dundas Herald — 16 January 1891

MIKING. [BY Otm SPECIAL, MR. Q. D. GIBSON, i THE MOUNT ZEEHAN. Within the last day or two what pro mises to be an important discovery has been made on the above mine. While some levelling was being done on one of the newly allotted residence areas in the heart of the township a considerable quan was afterwards found to carry both car bonates of lead and sulphides. This in duced the manager to do some sinking on it, and it is now evident that it forms the capping of a lode, and has been traced for about a couple of chains. The width of the formation at the surface is from 6ft to 7ft, and its course very nearly north and south. From assays that have been made the lode stuff is found to carry up to 2toz. silver per ton and 15 per cent lead. For surface stuff thii is very satisfactory, and the material shows very favourable indica tions o£ developing' into something pay able at a. depth. This is another instance of the importance and necessity of careful prospecting. THE A.U8TBAX. A dep...

In my account of the dance given here last week I omitted to mention that it was got up by some ladies, the following being the committeo, viz. :— Mrs House, Mrs McNair, Mrs Bennett, Mrs Clemens, and Miss 'Richards, who deserve credit for the artistic manner' in which they decorated the hall in which the dance took place, and also the ' recerche.i' manner in which the refreshment tables were got up, and the general good management all through the evening. Thirty-six couples were in attendance, dancing being kept up until 3.30 *.m.
