JOE TRITTON'S FURNITURE WAREHOUSE (VALLEY). [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 June 1919

JOE TRITTON^S FURNITURE WAREHOUSE (VALLEY). Most of the lads will remember 'Joe' Tritton, the popular and hospitable host Who, during the years of the war, was proprietor of the 'Sportsman's Hotel,' Leichhardt Street, Spring Hill. Many a happy, jovial musical evening some one of us have spent there with him and his family. We all remember his young soldier son, 'Joe,' a chip off the old block. He is just back -with us again. The returned men who are about to get married as well as their friends and relatives who require furniture are hereby reminded that our old host, 'Joe,' has opened up extensive premises in Wickham Street, on the way to the Valley, as an Up-to-date Furni ture Warehouseman. Spot' cash, less 10 per cent, discount, to soldiers or their dependents, or payment small cash deposit, balance suit - yourself.. He has already furnished^ many soldiers' hemes.

BEST BUSINESS. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 June 1919

BEST BUSINESS. (By W.C.A.). 'I hate kids whsen they're ten 1' - - Marjorie LawSon sat on the kitchen table where she was forbidden to sit and dangled her .legs in an altogether ?undignified way. Lizzie went on with her work even if her charges were annoyed. The dishes must be washed. 'It isn't so long ago' you was ten yourself,' she observed, 'and if you ain't got nothing to do but sit on the table you might wipe these dishes. 1 suppose you'll be wanting me to help you dress d'reckly.' 'It is a long while since I was ten, it's four years,' 'said Marjorie. 'She took the towel from the stolid Lizzie in a Way that had that domestic pillar been hypercritical * she might have described as snatching. 'And anyhow I didn't want boys of fifteen to entertain me I' - ! 'Oh, didn't you I' said Lizzie. 'What about young Teddy Poster. He was fifteen when you was ten.' 'And besides that's different.' 'Oh, yes, of course, but all the same you'd best be civil to this young Hearst. Your father have g...

Still More Repatriation. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 June 1919

Still More Repatriation. This time the.1 complaint comes not from the soldier himself, but from the Esk Shire Repat riation Committee, which is so fed' tip wi^ difilculties thrown in it's way and with the endless red tape that it is losing it's faith in the Federal Government's guarantee to assist returned soldiers and threatens to resign unless the department is prepared to help the com- ' mittee to be useful rather than ornamental. Here are copies of two ' letters sent by the Esk Repatriation Committee to the Deputy ? Comptroller of Repatriation: — . 'Sir, — In view of the fact that the refusal . of this loan meant that another soldier would be compelled as weir as applicant to throw tup the business owing to inadequate funds, and that the former has already spent money in connection with this matter which would be thrown away, my committee have decided, in order to protect the ;above soldiers from a v heavy loss, to loan applicant the necessary money from private funds. It may be...
