BETHANGA JUSTICES' JUSTICE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 2 July 1886

BETHANGA' ;JUSTICES' JUSTICE, TO.TIIHE EDITOR OF.THE SENTINEL. . SIn,-Kindly grant nio a little space, to reply to "F.D.P." fortthe last time. If his vanity only is prompting him to carry on a naewsunpor controversy, he will be disappointed after this; as far 'as I nai •onicorned. His self-conceit apparontly has beon flattered by Mr Steiart's reply, andleinioe also. I ati pldased''to think lie enjoys it, and' for the Imatter of that the 'idea his childish letters have, hit a "soft place"'" Speaking for myself, I' nm not quite soft enough to' think so, from the fact of his schoolboy effusions eomanating from a very"' soft place" in lis orgapisa tiion.' Although this village Solon is well. known here, despite his initials, he might havi had the good grace?,to emerge from behind them and his." bulwark of paste. board,''. and made himsolf-known else. whore, as'Mr' Stewart' and the ox-publi. can Colbert have dolie. IRISH HOME RULE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 2 July 1886

-IRISH HOME RULE., TO TISE EDIrroFI o TitE SENTIN?L.. . Snt,:--" Rule Britannia " is'oncoc more on the war-path, and in his mild, Platonic criticism, of my. letter he makes one or two assertions to which, with your permnission, I wish to take exception. In the first place, allow me to inform your correspondent that he is again blundering. Mr Parnell has never boon the loeader of an Irish party, numbering 100 mombers. It was not until the receut general election that his followiug numbered eighty-three, anid when just six years ago he was chosen to load the Homao Rule party, his retitiuo counted about twenty-five-and a very disorgai ised body they wore, too. 'Considoring the short time that has elapsed since .the "uncrowned King" of to-dity lrts' been at the helm, and the fact that he and: his principal lieutunants have been more than once imprisoned sines his accession, I would feel obliged to "Rule Britannia " if he would let mes know how "the Collie Irish might have peacefully obt...

TALLANGATTA JOTTINGS. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 9 July 1886

TALLANrGATTA JIOTTINGS. ---+- (By K.xrT.) Walter Pomberton, a household in Tallangatta, has been called to head quarters, and the ton feeools the clhang inunensely. Pemberton was a great favorite, who, by his gentlemanly con duct and obliging disposition, endeared himself to all. Messrs l'Calluen and Deering, after having been lionised atCorryong, are hav ing a short respite hero, with a view to recovering condition, the loss of which was consequent upon the extreme kind ness of their Upper Murray friends. The versatile and volatile John was in fine form at our council meeting the other day. Unfortuatelfortonteor Johln-fortu. nately for the people-he hadn't a sup. porter. Really John should be more circumspect. Old age, doubtless, has its votaries, but senility is, in the nine toonth century, pronounced contemptible. "My horse's throat was cut !" Black trackers, D.'s, slowly but surely arrived on the scene. Result--Nil; and still we sloop smoothly. 'Tis rumored that Mr Joseph Dobins...

GRANYA NOTES. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 9 July 1886

G1ANYrA UOTES. (FrnOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Thoe half-yearly meeting of the Granya brancl of the A.M.A. was held on Satur day evening. Mr S. Rousseau was elec ted president; Mr C. Here, vice-presi dent; and Messrs Bray and' Legge re-elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively. The branch now numbers about forty members, and considering the severe strain on the resources of the society the finances are thoroughly satis factory. The branch hero might easily extend its sphere of usefulness by seeing that the labor-covenants of the leases are carried out, ancd other matters of kindred sort attended to. The attitudo at present simply is doing nothing. Everyone is waiting for some one else to nmake a start, but ssurely this is it matter that a miners' association should enquire into. " Unity is strength," and it combined effort from our minors might result in the opening up of ground which is simply locked up at present. At any rate, it is worthy of a trial. In mining matters there...

HOMItE RULE FOR IRELAND. TO TIHE EDIrOr 0' THE SENTINEL. Sis,-As this letter will close my cor respondence upon the above question, I must upon curtain points be brief, in order to bring into prominence more important aspects of. my case against granting full, free, immediate, and un controlled Home Rule foi Ireland; : With regard to the late Right Hon. W. E. Forster, your correspondent "Austro Celt" has not maintained his assertion that this great statesman 'ever gave, the " military" permission to fire upon the people at their own discretion. When hlie says that such an orderwads givon'to the police at Clare, I must remind him that the police are not the military. I may also inform hlin that he is incorrect in-assorting that Mr Forster ever gave such an order to the Clare or other police; He never did so, and' no asser tion t to that effect was ever mlade ill the Imperial Parliament.
