Medical Notes. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 27 July 1900

Medical Hotes. Anaemia. — This is a state of weak health, associated particularly withpallor of the skin, due to poorness and deficiency of Wood. Youths sometimes suffer, but men rarely, unless the state is set up by some other disease. Girls and young women are especially affected for years with this disease unless they are skilfully treated, and in some cases it may lead to death by heart failure. The Anaemia, or bloodless, state is, of course, common in all diseases, be cause they tend to weakness and debi lity. This is especially the case with phthisis, or consumption. Rheumatic patients also tend to weakness with pallor. In true of cases anaemia there are pallor and debility and shortness of breath in the absence of signs due to diseases of the lungs, stomach, and joints* Patients are generally thin aa weB as . pale ; the skin of the fece looks unwhole somely white, and the whites of the eyes are bluish in tint. A tiny flush of pink may come over the cheeks for a moment during ...

A Notable Gathering. [Newspaper Article] — The Canowindra Star — 27 July 1900

A Notable Gathering. A better class of in on ho s never been seen at at. meetings in Sydney than those nt the conference of the Fanners and Settlers' Association. They are utterly unlike the farmers of popular city fancy, and the farmers of fiction. Their Eng lish and Irish brothers -would not know them. The English and Irish farmers are plain homely men. leaving the forma tion of political opinions to news paper men and politicians, who come mostly from the professional classes. You have to go to the United States and Canada to find a resemblance to the men we have seen during the past vreek in Sydney. la America they have shaken off shy ness and the old fashioned ways of the old world. They are keen business men, given to deep and close study at the kerosene lamp ; they may not have the sharpness of eity men but they have common sense, and a sturdy honesty which surprises by its freshness. . Of course fanning- has undergone a complete change nt recent years. Now adays it partakes ...
