Our Letter Box. BOROUGH OF OAKLEIGH AFFAIRS. To the Editor. [Newspaper Article] — Oakleigh and Caulfield Times Mulgrave and Ferntree Gully Guardian — 4 July 1914

Our Letter Box. SBOROUGH OF . OAKLEIGH 1AFFAIRS. To the Editr. Sir,-I quite agree with "Dis gusted Ratepayer" in his remarks in last week's issue re the roller and the mismanagement of our Borough finances, also the amount spent in incidental expenses an nually. So the poor old roller has been sent to Richmond for repairs for the winter months. I think it it is about time the management was relegated to recess also. They appear to be decaying to the Corr. I see no reason why they Ought en' to be put with Brine, and placed in some Westlev direction. where they would not be a Knight Iy annoyance to the ratepayers in Davey avenue and surrounding district. This can be proved by our footpaths, which are at present knee dr ep with onion grass and holes. If one has the good luck to go throagh this safely and leave the main thoroughfare he finds himself in a water-hole for want of a lamp. Trusting the ratepayers willtake a decisive stand in this maittr and have. someone at the head of affai...

Football. OAKLEIGH v. EVERLEIGH OAKLEIGH WIN. By "Follower" Oakleigh have come on con siderably during the past few weeks and we anticipated another vlctory on Saturday last. The play generally speaking was well bunched and those interesting duels which an open game pro duces were very- few and far between. Aided by luck which sometimes attends our football matches, Oaks ran out winners by the narrow margin of 9 points. The losers played better system throughout, and when cornered there was always someone to whom to pass. Gardner umpired the match in his usual capable manner. The Team Oakleigh--F. Tait, Rowlands (2), Anderson, Harlock, Hurrmn, vCanrtin, MIcKenzie, Cummins, Bennett, Barker, Foster, Ethell, Couper, Buchanan, Cox, Lewis, Gough. Umpire-J. Gardner. The Play. Oakleigh were first to move, working the leather on the wing ; Cummins dashed across the centre, I?Martin forwarded ; but Everleigh relieved and shortly afterwards :otched a minor point. Bennett centred; EthelI sent ...
