STOCK AND STATION REPORT. BLACKALL. Friday Evening. In the local stock market we cannot bay that affairs are in any way brink. The local sales ore simply confined to a few "fats" purchased by the trade. The demand for western country still continues, but holders are loth to part except at a high figure. The price of wool is still maintained, and we may look forward to keen competition and higher prices when the next aeries of ?ales commences. BRISBANE AFFAIRS. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. December 5. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 20 December 1879

BRISBANE AFFAIRS. ' FBOM OUR SPECIAL OOmiESrONDENT. Veccmlicr C. .TniNOS continue dull, and news tcarce. One great subjcct for conversation in token ^ from us. Croft wick went away on Saturday, I rood.we are no longer able to make talk about I Shakespeare-we liave to fall back on the 1 musical glasses alone. X think no profes sional, ever visited Queensland who was so wclliocoivel as Crcawick. It was not merely that the, theatre in which he performed was always crowded, but people here vied with one another in the attempt to moke him at home in Brisbane. His daughter-in-law, Mia," Ashton, of whoso professional merit I have not such an exalted opinion, was in pri vate a most ladylike and pleasant person, and his son, her husband, a gentleman and a good 'fellow. Of course ho did not leave without the usual testimonial. There was a gathering at the Johnsonian Club room, where the Chief Justioc on behalf o\ ,i,'omc friends presented him with a magnificent meerschaum pipe^-a finer one tha...

HAYDEN v. TAMBO HOSPITAL. COMMITEE. TO THE EDITOR, [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 20 December 1879

HAYDEN v. TAHBO HO.il'lTAI, C0MMI1TK1S. TO THE EDITOR, I Sib,-Beferring to the above ca«c in yonr issue of Uie 18tb inst., you state that when Hayden and his wife arrived, the Commiltce " refused to confirm their engagement, bcnce the action." Tenuis me now to state that when Hayden and bis wife presented themselves at the Tombo Hospital, they positively refused to enter upon tbc duties for'which they were engaged, but after the lapse of n little time Hayden apj llcd to be put on, which the Com mittee refuted to do on the ground* that owing to his former refusal, they considered he was to Fay the least "shuffling." Hence the defence. 1 Judging by your report, the public, especi ally the working men who support the Hospital, may be le 1 to think that the pla n-1 tiffs in this cose were bally used, wherea* I the boot is on the oi her lee. Yours For the Committee, V. V. ME It EDITH. Lansdovvno, I5ih December, 1879.
